She Wants Revenge - This is Forever
Battle of the Bands: She Wants Revenge vs Sisters of Mercy
I apparently missed the debut album of the California based band. This is Forever is She Wants Revenge's second album, and was on a the listening station at Hear Music.
When California based She Wants Revenge released their debut album back in early 2006, it fast became apparent that they had created the soundtrack for the dark and debaucherous on many-a-dance-floors across the nation. Much like their Electronic Rock fore-fathers; Dave Gahan, Rob Smith and Ian Curtis had done so before, She Wants Revenge offered a voice and a rhythm for scorned lovers, bored housewives, jaded hipsters, gender-benders and club-kids across the nation, all seductively swaying their hips and pouting along to the undeniably catchy tunes such as These Things, Out of Control and the instant cross over hit Tear You Apart.
It was good enough for me to buy after listening to the first few tracks, with the obvious legacy of 80s Alternative Dance charts like Joy Division, Depeche Mode (in their goth/leather phase), and Sisters Of Mercy coming to mind. My favorite track is probably Written In Blood, but it seems that all the songs on the album are pretty much the same, and don't really stand up to further scrutiny with some of the originals from the era.

So I couldn't help dusting off A Slight Case Of Overbombing from The Sisters Of Mercy and compare them. While I think that musically She Wants Revenge would not stand out too much in a shuffled iPod playlist containing Depeche Mode, Sisters Of Mercy and others, I can't really compare them to the over the top cyberpunk goodness of such Goth Rock classics like Temple Of Love or This Corrosion.

Sister of Mercy me donne envie de ressortir mes vieilles K7. C'est vrai que She wants Revenge n'a pas la même classe même si les chansons se laissent écouter. J'espère que tu n'as pas acheté ça après être passé sur mon blog :-)
