Rue Melo
Paris + Montevideo + New-York + Los Angeles = Rue Melo
I picked up Rue Melo's self titled debut album at Hear Music this weekend, but I'm sure I've heard one of her songs before, probably on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic or something.
It turns out that Rue Melo herself is a cultural remix, with a French mother, and a Uruguayan father, born in Paris, but growing up in New-York and now living in Lose Angeles. Her music reflects that, a mashup of diverse influences, integrating some very urban sounds with a Latin sensibility and a little French Je ne sais quoi.
As usual, my favorite tracks seem to be the ones that mix the various influences, and I keep going back to Fallen, which I swear I have heard somewhere else, and that is also available as a CD bonus track (why do CDs even have bonus tracks?!?) in French under the title Tomber and in spanish as Cayendo.

Oh! and Rue Melo will be playing in Santa Monica at the Temple Bar in December, I'll try to catch her then.
I can't seem to find Fallen as a video, but her first single Check It is available on youtube.
Rue Melo - Check It
FALLEN AND TEMPLE BAR
the song "Fallen" plays during an episode of the L word "Return of the father". It's not one of Rue's videos though. Check out Enamorada" on Youtube, too. Hope you'll make it on Dec. 5th. Would be cool to met you.

"Fallen" was featured on the L-word. Thats where you might've heard it.
