Electrobike PI
Cooler Wheels for a Warmer Planet
With the tag line "Cooler Wheels for a Warmer Planet" the Electrobike company just launched the PI through Design Within Reach.
Marcus
Levison-Hays’ Electrobike Pi (2007) combines the lightweight
portability of a bicycle with speed and self-propulsion more akin to a
motorcycle. A breakthrough in environmentally sound transportation, Pi
may be the ideal for commuting transport. Considered a “human-electric
hybrid,” Pi charges from any standard household outlet in 2.5–3 hours
and can run on a single charge for 25–30 miles.
DWR seems to only carry the PI 3, which is the base human/electric hybrid in ferrari red, but Electrobike seems to be making all kinds of models, from a optional gas powered engine, to turn the PI into a gas/electric hybrid, a 3 wheeled delivery model, and even a street legal hybrid racer.
Sadly, the Electrobike seems to be priced more like a Tesla than a Prius, with the based model starting at $8000 USD. Still, I find the design very interesting, with the single oversized arc reminding me of an eco-friendlier version of the Confederate Wraith Motorcycle, and DWR sells chairs, like the classic Egg Chair designed by Arne Jacobsen for more than that.
