The Guys' Guys at G1988
a group show featuring "dudes... and only dudes" at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles

Two art pieces really caught my eye from Gallery 1988's current exhibition. Featuring the work of The Chung, Matt Dangler, Jose Emroca Flores, Zack Johnsen, Travis Lampe, Parskid, Roland Tamayo, Peter Taylor, Rich Tuzon and Andrew Wilson, Guys' Guys is an all male group show, probably in response to the current fashion of all girls painting exhibition.
Roland Tamayo's Inked mixes a tree and an octopus, and rather than doing a full color treatment like the other pieces he submitted for the show, this one is left very pale and starck, which I think works a lot better.
Rich Tuzon's Medusa and Perseus grabbed be, mainly because of the strong composition and the georgous tattoo on Medusa. I also like the style, which is somewhere between Disney concept art and Japanese woodblock illustration.
Somebody else must have been thinking the same thing because both pieces are also sold, while others from the same artists are still available.
