On A Clear Night
Missy Higgins second album releases this week.
Missy Higgins released her first album just as I was moving to Australia three years ago. The singer-songwriter from Melbourne was only 20 years old at the time and The Sound Of White instantly became one of my favorites. Her second album On A Clear Night just released in Australia a few days ago, and should be available as an import any day now.
Missy's new album, "On A Clear Night", retains the hallmarks of her earlier work - irresistible melodies and 'arrow through the heart' lyrics delivered by a voice that clearly means it. However, this time around the tracks benefit from the empathetic production of Mitchell Froom who helmed the first three Crowded House albums as well as works by other quality artists such as Ron Sexsmith, Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney and the Finn Brothers.
Missy Higgins: On A Clear Night
Missy posted pretty much all of the songs from the new album on her MySpace page. She alternates her signature piano ballads with more guitar driven material (apparently because it was easier for her to bring her guitar to her hotel room while on tour than to have a piano carted up there. I feel that a lot of the teenage angst that was driving the first album with songs like Scar, Katie or The River has been replaced with, well actually, I don't know what it was replace with, which is a little bit disapointing. That won't prevent me from buying On a Clear Night when I find it, but I was expecting more after waiting all this time.
