CéU

What is Malémolencia?

Wow. CéU's self-titled debut album, published in collaboration with Six Degrees and Hear Music, is my latest discovery from Brazil. A perfect mix of Brazilian soul mixed with electronica-infused afrojazz and a little bit of dub (listen to Concrete Jungle) thrown-in for good measure.

CéU, (pronounced "Sayou"), is all about innocence, sunshine, beauty, taking it easy, putting a little rhythm and happiness into life and, above all, the Brazilian way of malêmolencia.

As far as I can tell malémolencia is a typically Brazilian attitude, a mix of rhythm and mischieviousness, that CéU (which means sky or heaven in Portuguese) represents perfectly. Recommended for fans of Bebel Gilberto and Cibelle.
