Wet Lamp by NON Design
electricity + water = crazy lamp design
This is not exactly new, but I saw a real one today, and I love it. The WET Lamp by non design looks like it came from a mad scientist's secret lab, and is a fantastic source of illumination and conversation.
The WET Lamp is an elegant and playful series of glass lamps with an alluring water-submerged light bulb at its center. Putting an exposed light bulb in water certainly raises some eyebrows, but it also creates an intriguingly simple dimmer switch. When a thin silver rod is slid into the water, the WET Lamp turns on and becomes progressively brighter as the rod is submerged.
The lamp, created by Scott Franklin, comes in 3 different models, small/medium/large and I find the medium the most succesfull in terms of the elegance of its shape and proportions. HIGHLIGHTS in Santa-Monica sells them respectively for $210/$320/$340 in clear, frosted a little bit more.
