Tekkon Kinkreet trailer

Tekkon KinkreetTekkon Kinkreet, also known as Black & White or Amer Béton, and directed by Michael Arias finally has an official website and a trailer. I'm glad to see Michael's effort into bringing the fantastic manga from Taiyo Matsumoto finally come to life, ever since he talked everyone into making a short teaser for the project almost 8 years ago, which was then directed by Koji Morimoto.

After a few years in development and financing hell, and probably saved thanks to the beautiful and high-profile work Michael has done on Animatrix, the project was greenlighted as an hybrid 2D/3D production with the characters drawn and the background in CGI, and produced by Studio 4°C for a December 2006 release date.

Tekkon Kinkreet Pilot

Posted by Chris Johnston at 2006-10-25 12:52
Hey Olivier
Chris Johnston, former Softie here. I stumbled upon your blog on my roughly annual search for information about Tekkon Kinkreet. I remember the pilot vividly from 7 years back or so (especially its infectious soundtrack) but couldn't remember the name, making a search pretty tough! I've found some trailers online, but have yet to find the original pilot. Would you know if it exists anywhere?
On a different topic
congrats on Happy Feet! My 4-year-old son and I will be more than happy to contribute to its success when it comes out next month!

TEKKONKINKREET

Posted by Michael Arias at 2006-11-20 23:50

Hi Olivier,

Mike here. Thanks so much for recommending TEKKON to folks overseas. The film's due for wide release here (in Japan) 12/23. Fingers crossed. Sony Pictures have picked the film up for international distribution but I've no idea yet what their plans are for getting it out there. I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I find out.

As far as the Morimoto-Mike pilot it pops up from time to time on Youtube (despite my unceasing efforts to bury it). It was officially released only on the SIGGRAPH 1999 (?) Electronic Theater DVD.

My congratulations also on HAPPY FEET and the big move back from down under.
